Wellness destinations are splitting into two camps: “softcare” and “hardcare.” Meraki Wellness in the Grand Cayman leans into both with rule-breaking architectural design, featuring the region’s first commissioned Snow Room and the largest Panoramic Sauna in the Caribbean.
As global wellness tourism surpasses $1 trillion this year, destinations once known for leisure are leaning into longevity. On Grand Cayman’s famed Seven Mile Beach, Meraki Wellness embodies that shift – a purpose-built retreat where hydrotherapy, bio-tech facials, and flexitarian dining replace rum punches, buffets, and pool parties.
In an era when luxury is defined less by excess and more by transformation, wellness has become the new status symbol. The $6.3 trillion global wellness economy is expected to grow 7.3% annually through 2028, according to the Global Wellness Institute, outpacing global GDP. And as younger travelers treat self-care as essential rather than indulgent, demand for immersive wellness experiences is accelerating.
Debuting this fall, Meraki – the Greek word meaning “to do something with soul, creativity, or love” – is the Cayman Islands’ first standalone wellness destination. At 16,000 square feet, the distinctive half-circle structure fuses modern architecture, commissioned art, integrative therapies, and what founders Peter and Shula Clarke call “wellness with love.” The Meraki center combines advanced treatments, mindful movement, and flexitarian dining with a curated retail collection of global luxury and wellness brands. Meraki offers a slower, more intentional kind of indulgence, one that reflects a broader reset in Caribbean luxury. The features are ones not found in typical hotel spas, including a Panoramic Sauna, Aquamoon Showers, Aromatic Caldarium, Frigidarium, Meraki Rain Showers, Snow Room, and a Tepidarium (warm Roman baths).
For husband-and-wife team, Peter and Shula Clarke, Meraki represents the culmination of decades spent shaping some of the world’s leading wellness and spa destinations. Drawing from that experience, they’ve built a space that fuses precision hospitality with evidence-based wellness.
